So TD Bank is dangling the low-end iPod Shuffle for new accounts. It toasts giving away a toaster, is a smart way to leverage the iPod buzz and I imagine it's doing wonders for branch traffic and acquisitions. But...given the media they are throwing behind this promo, plus the high premium cost (oh let's say $80 per iPod), you've got to wonder just what their CPA is. Sure they try to lock-in all those new iCustomers by asking them to add a direct deposit or pre-authorized payment to the account, but a $300+ cost-per-acquisition is going to take a good few years of service fees to reclaim. And I also imagine that the sudden influx of calls to the 'EasySwitch' team may make it harder to deliver a good first impression.
